on “et la pluie dit”

In late 2023 I wrote a series of 26 short texts in French, one for each letter of the alphabet, as an exercise to practice my admittedly poor French. Once completed it sat in my desk. I always knew I wanted them to be presented alongside images, occasionally I’d pair them with nude photographs from the turn of the century, hasty napkin illustrations I’d made, and my sky photographs. None of that felt right.

Earlier today I started experimenting with some of my wife’s digital portraits (you can find many of them on her Instagram) and it felt right. Over the past few hours I wrote these short French poems over her portraits, organized them into a crude chapbook, and published the collection online.

My French is poor, my penmanship is poor, but Madeline’s artwork is fantastic.

You can purchase this chapbook from Lulu.com by clicking this link. It would be greatly appreciated. If you would rather purchase a copy directly from me (signed, or not) please reach out via the contact page via that link or below for pricing and shipping timeframe. Please note, ordering from me directly may take longer than ordering from Lulu directly.
