Note: These “haiku” originally appeared on my twitter account. Twitter limits each line of the “haiku” to 25 characters. That was my only restriction. I do not count syllables for these poems.
houses on fire in winter:
I bite my tongue
so you don’t have to
a blizzard
shouting into itself::
time,too,buries the wind
self hours dispersed
the air tastes like you
–a mountain, breathing
never licorice sleep
always a banana dreaming
of electricity and home
like a hurricane’s smile
like an ocean’s longing:
a sun behind the mountain
pale sky clouds dancing
light caresses our skin:
the apple and the tree
sand dreaming of stone:
twenty two steps into
twenty two rivers
wind carrying
laughter::
a cloud obscures the sun
while waiting for the sun
in night’s unique silence
it’s best to love waiting
it’s best to love silence
a flying bird’s shadow
chases it from below–
earth smiles at the sun
before one can accept
the earth’s soul
one must accept the sky’s
behind every grey cloud
is a bright blue sky
the wind tickling
the grass & leaves::
concrete caught footsteps
and even now
the wind tastes like
happiness’s longing
a nude in the sand
;desperation makes love
to the sea,the stars;
desire’s mask rust red::
the stars beg the sky
for a reprieve
water finding its way::
the birch tree
imitating the snake
light shatters
(the solidity
of broken things)
heaven smells your hair
and whispers hope
into your beautiful ears
a cat stretches and yawns
with sharp white teeth–
is it spring?
the dark dreams of light
in the eerie quiet:
the tennessee river moans
a beetle builds a home at
the center of the earth:
the stone’s wooden creaks
i leave a glass of water
out in the sun
for the sky to drink
an opera singer living
in my water pipes:
birds fly in the grey sky
dust tangled in the wind:
a river dreams of the sea
the sea dreams of a river
abcdefghijklmnopqrtuvwxyz
abcdefghijlmnopqrstuvwxyz
abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxz
the dandelions begging
the wind for salvation:
eyes catching sunlight
a qualitative daydream
birthing hope’s decay
:a smile into one’s self
time catches itself
in a mirror: a tree falls
and someone hears it

Starting this blog has resulted in a great deal of contemplation on my past work, including the 2022 project and a color, divine, which consisted of digital manipulations of the complete (known) paintings of Leonardo da Vinci. I will make a follow-up post later tonight including the results of that project.
Do you reflect on your past work? Or do you find it better to leave it in the past? Let me know below.
